La Palma, island of the eternal springWhat is the weather like, in that period? A question we often hear, but that is difficult to answer. The climate is changing, global warming has its effects here as well. But, sure, we can say something, in general. The geographical situation of La Palma is the cause of the stabel sub-tropical climate. The crest (cumbre) divides the island in two parts, which results in different flora and fauna. La Palma is often called a mini-continent, because of her special geographical form, many micro-climates exist. Every ravine has its own climate. In the coastal area, upto 200 m. the temperature is quiet stable, around 20 degrees, because of this at this height you are always in the middle of the bananas... The northern part, from Mazo upto Barlovento has the most moderate and cool climate with less sun-hours. In the laurel-wood Los Tilos temperature seldomly rises above 15ºC. The
western part, from Fuencaliente up to Puntagorda, is the driest and
has the most sun-hours. The beach of Tazacorte is told to have most
sun-hours of whole Europe! From 500 m. upwards temperature can vary
more. Above 2.000 m. height it might snow in winter. Tanks to all those micro-climates there is always some sun anywhere on the island. A matter of getting around! For the current climate, watch this site: tiempo and choose left the ´municipio´ Tijarafe. For more information about El Pinar, click here. |
